Head of the Competence Center for the Treatment of Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer and co-head of the Competence Center for the Treatment of Recurrent Pelvic Tumors. The Center is a part of N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center, Ministry of Health of Russia; it cooperates with leading clinics in Europe, such as Royal Mardsen Hospital (London, United Kingdom), AKH Vienna University Hospital (Vienna, Austria), Champalimaud Foundation (Lisbon, Portugal), Netherlands Cancer Institute (Amsterdam, Netherlands). In this Center, patients can undergo a complete cycle of comprehensive treatment for cancer (including preoperative chemoradiotherapy, surgery, and postoperative therapy). Doctors of this center deals with difficult patients with the involvement of all related specialists. There are regular on-line consultations with foreign specialists to develop individual treatment plans. As a result, many patients undergo radical and sphincter-sparing surgeries.
Head of the Russian division of the International Research on Safety and Efficacy of a combination organ-sparing method for the treatment of colorectal cancer (www.iwwd.org). This method includes radiotherapy and subsequent chemotherapy (according to an original technique) with the assessment of treatment efficacy and tumor removal using transanal endoscopic microsurgery).
Dr. Mamedli provides the full range of surgery for colorectal cancer, including minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and transanal endoscopic microsurgery) and extensive multivisceral resections with reconstruction of the organs removed.
Research interests
Benign rectal tumors and early-stage rectal cancer: transanal endoscopic microsurgery. Resectable and locally advanced colorectal cancers: personalization of treatment (combination and comprehensive treatment using chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy). Laparoscopic surgery. Sphincter-sparing and reconstructive surgery in patients with colorectal cancer.
